Localizing Social Content

There are times when you want broad awareness and then there are times you really want to hone in to a certain zip code. We’ve pulled together five tips for localizing your content on social media and reaching the right target.

  1. Hashtags: Research the most popular local hashtags that are relevant to your brand. For example in Colorado #303eats or #5280eats are popular hashtags for food-related accounts and also leverage the area code of Denver (303) and play off 5280 (the altitude at which Denver resides).

  2. Location Tags; It goes without saying that tagging the location you want to target on a post is a good idea when going locally. Some scheduling platforms don’t allow location tags so you’ll need to go back into the post and them manually.

  3. UGC: Feature some local content from popular content creators in the area and be sure to tag them. Whether it’s a beautiful sunset photo or a scene from a local restaurant or event. Make sure you tie it back to your brand so it doesn’t stick out.

  4. Paid Ads: Targeted social ads are an easy way to get your content in front of the right people. You can even upload a list of zip codes on Facebook to target people in the right area.

  5. Influencers: Partnering with local influencers for a giveaway or feature is a great way to embed yourself quickly. They’ve already spent the time building credibility with a local audience and have people’s ears and eyes.
