We’re not one for shiny objects, but we do appreciate a good feature that mixes things up. At one point it was Stories, but Instagram’s latest "borrowed feature” is the knock-off of TikTok - Instagram Reels. Since its launch we’ve taken a test and learn approach with clients. Here’s what we found.
More Reach. In general Instagram Reels received more video plays and overall reach than an average video did on the IG feed. For some clients it was up to seven times more video plays This could be in part because of the dedicated Reel feed. We recommend sharing the video both on your page and the Reels feed.
More Time: From editing to storyboarding, Reels seemed to take more time than the average video to create. Of course the more you do something, the more efficient you will get.
More Frustration: As Instagram continues to tweak the feature we ran into quirks like drafts of Reels being deleted due to updates. Instagram seems to be learning alongside everyone else and we suspect the feature will continue to morph.
