As members of the Kentucky and Colorado chapters of Bourbon Women we had the privilege of attending the recent Siposium in Louisville, Ky. The gathering was not only a great chance to meet women in the industry there of our favorite moments from the weekend events.
Not all corn is created equal. We heard from Ann Marshall of High Wire Distilling outside of Charleston on how they brought back an heirloom strain of corn to create high quality whiskey. She spoke about how every time you plant corn it adapts ot the soil creating a sense of terroir for the whiskey.
Women uplifting women is must in the industry. From a top spirits writer, to sisters who supply grain to one of the first women to work in whiskey R&D, the event showed how women are involved in every facet of the whiskey world.
Following your dream can be scary but worth it. Jane Bowie of Maker’s Mark shared how leaving her cush job at Maker’s was a hard leap but she’s launching a distillery project, Potter Jane that will allow her to make whiskey the way she’s always dreamed.
