Social Media has evolved from text status updates to glossy Instagram perfection to TikTok Dance reels and 10 second recipes. We scoured the web and the feed to pull our design trend predictions for the upcoming year.
Memes: If ever we needed a good laugh it’s after nine months of shutdown. Brands are recognizing the need to make consumers smile and we think this is a trend that will continue to laugh. It’s also a great way to get brands ingrained in the larger social conversation.
The No Edit Edit: Some say 2021 will be the year of “getting real”. Less picture perfect and more real life, behind the scenes images. While we are fans of keeping the grid pretty there is something to be said about mixing up “posed” shots with those that are more real, as long as the color scheme or filter can help tie it somewhat together. We still believe in brand standards after all.
Hand-drawn layers: We love this idea of art meets photo and think if done consistently and tastefully “hand-drawn” layers on top of an image could make an image stand out in the feed. It also opens up a new world of creativity.
The Rise of Reels: Across the board we’ve seen Reels get double the views than a normal video posted on Instagram. Short video in general will probably be a trend we continue to see as TikTok grows as well.
