Whether you’re managing your personal account or 10 client accounts, you want to make sure your content has a chance to get seen. While good content, above all else, is the most important factor in engagement, frequency of posting (and timing) should be considered.
It makes sense, right? Make one post, get some engagement. Make another post, get 2x engagement. Make ten posts get 10x the engagement. Maybe. Or not. It depends on the platform and your own audience. Post too little, people forget about you. Post too much, you risk annoying your followers.
A few stats to keep in mind about frequency:
Facebook: Post 1-2 times per day (Socialbakers)Twitter: Post 3 times per day (Socialbakers)Instagram: Post 1-2 times per day (Hubspot)
Now, what about the best time of day to post? It depends on the content, the message, and your audience. For example, if your core audience is primarily in North America, maybe you shouldn’t be posting at 3 AM. If you have a global audience, however, that’s not a bad idea.
In general, SumAll found the following about scheduling:
Facebook: 1-4pm on weekdaysTwitter: 1-3pm on weekdaysInstagram: 5-6pm on weekdays (8pm on Mondays)
Wondering about your weekend posts? Chances are, you'll see less engagement on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays across all platforms. So unless your content is time sensitive or event-related, you should save that meme for Monday.
If you have reason to believe that you or your audience respond better during other times of the day, feel free to experiment. Track your posts. Notice what gets most engagement and when. Maybe it’s the content, maybe it’s because you discovered when your audience is most active on social media.
What have you found works best for you?
Bonus Fact: Your tweet will hit peak engagement at around 18 minutes. It will lose traction after that time.
