The new network Threads has come out with a bang attracting millions of followers overnight, but the big question is will it stick and should you invest time in it as a brand? We share our Point of View on Threads after its first week debut.
Pros: The platform is seeing quick growth because it has seamless integration with Instagram and is so easy to sign up. You can easily “bring”’your Instagram audience with you. It was launched at a time where people were hitting a wall with Twitter’s restrictions (tweet view limits) and looking for alternatives.
Cons: Some privacy discussions are taking place already and lawsuit threats are looming from Twitter. There’s also the fact that it’s yet another app. Is it different enough from Twitter to get people to switch and stick with it? Will Instagram users really enjoy it long term or will they go back?
Threads Content Strategy
The general consensus is everyone is still figuring out how best to engage at this point. Most posts to-date have been a 👋 (so and so) has entered the conversation. It’s in that awkward, but fun, new phase. There is a notion that the platform is reminiscent of a happier time in social media - more open conversations, random interactions and fun. As the platform matures we’ll see if that remains the case.
META is encouraging people to use Threads more as a public discussion, similar to Twitter. If you have something you want a larger conversation around, best to put it on Threads versus Instagram. We’re also seeing news outlets jump on board.
It’s early, but currently brands who have nailed humor on Twitter, looking at you Wendy’s, also seem to do really well on Threads. It’s less about brand education and more about entertainment. When it comes to the world of influencers, since the platform is pulling most of its users via Instagram, it will be interesting to see how creators on Instagram fit in or if TikTok creators thrive more on Threads if it stays more humor-based.
Our Recommendation:
Connect your brand’s IG account to Threads so people can easily follow and tag.
Drop a witty welcome post that also communicates we’re just stopping by.
Invest in a larger Community Management and Content Strategy once you see if it has staying power. 💪
