Promoting your business on social media can seem simple — post a photo, add a hashtag or two and call it a day. But, there’s a lot more that goes into it. From strategic messages to content that resonates with a target audience we’ve pulled together four tips that will help you reach your business goals.
1. Map Out a Content Strategy: The first step to creating a content calendar is to decide on your strategy - what business goals are you trying to reach and what messges can help you get there? Once you have that determined create content buckets around these messages. This ensures you’re addressing all your goals instead of honing in on one specific area.
2. Decide Frequency: How often will you post? A common mistake people make when it comes to social media marketing is going for quantity over quality. We suggest focusing on five quality posts a week over 15 posts that don’t have much meaning. You should always test and learn as well. If fans start to drop off or hide content, look at frequency and content topics.
3. Tweak by Network: While at the surface a social network is a social network, they each have slightly different audiences. This means you may want to tailor your text and images depending on the network. For example, your Facebook audience could skew more female and slightly older while your Twitter audience is a younger male. Make sure your messages are relevant to the audience who’s listening.
4. Create Text + Images: Once you’ve gotten to this point, it’s finally time to… create the post. Pick out your favorite images and add clever text that follows your brand’s voice. You’re well on your way to mapping out a strategic content calendar that won’t leave you saying: “What should I post today?”
